#SHOWBIZ: Tears and triumph: Ziana Zain awarded Melaka Datukship after 30-year career

Ayrer Keroh: After a three-decade-long career in the entertainment world, renowned singer Ziana Zain has been bestowed the prestigious Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka (D.P.S.M.) title, carrying the honorific Datuk. This esteemed recognition took place during the Investiture Ceremony marking the 77th Birthday of Melaka's Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Mohd Ali Rustam, held at the Balai Istiadat Seri Negeri in Ayer Keroh.

Accompanied by her younger brother, fellow singer Anuar Zain, and alongside Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, the 58-year-old Merlimau-born artiste expressed heartfelt gratitude for the momentous occasion. The event was a bittersweet one, however, as Ziana's late parents were unable to join her in celebrating this milestone.

With a resounding "Praise be to God, this is a blessing from God," Ziana shared her overwhelming emotions. Reflecting on her 30-year journey, she stated, "To be recognized, especially by my home state, is deeply moving." Ziana emphasized that the award does not define her contribution, maintaining that her dedication to her fans has always been her driving force.

However, the singer expressed a profound sense of loss for her parents' absence, saying, "I feel a profound sadness that both my parents are not here to witness this moment." Ziana reinforced her deep-rooted connection to Melaka, affirming that the state will always hold a special place in her heart. She said, "Melaka will always be a part of me, wherever I go."

She added, "I will always carry the name of Melaka with pride." Regarding her new title, Ziana candidly admitted that adjusting to being called Datuk will take time. She remarked, "It will probably take me a while to adjust." Despite the initial shock, she expressed her immense gratitude, stating, "It almost feels like a dream, but I am exceedingly grateful."

The same ceremony honored veteran actor Shaharuddin Thamby with the Bintang Khidmat Terpuji (BKT) award.
