S. Korean, Mexican FMs discuss cooperation in AI, middle-power solidarity

Seoul, South Korea - On August 24, Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met with his Mexican counterpart, Roberto Velasco, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, according to Seoul's foreign ministry. The meeting took place in Seoul and focused on bolstering ties amid global uncertainties, including supply chains, energy, food security, and security concerns, the ministry reported.

Cho emphasized the importance of deepening the institutional foundation for trade and investment, as well as diversifying cooperation into fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), space exploration, education, and the defense industry, the ministry added. Velasco highlighted the necessity for both nations to play a role in constructing a more inclusive and representative international order that considers the viewpoints of middle powers, stating that the bilateral relationship is grounded in shared principles of democracy, human rights, and respect for international law.

Additionally, the two ministers noted that President Lee Jae Myung had accepted an invitation from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to visit Mexico, as reported by the ministry.
