Rockies place starting pitcher Kyle Freeland on injured list

The Colorado Rockies have placed starting pitcher Kyle Freeland on the 15-day injured list due to a pinched nerve, according to the Associated Press. The left-hander exited his start on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers after 3 2/3 innings, experiencing pain that radiated from his neck down to his fingers. Colorado manager Warren Schaeffer indicated that Freeland felt better on Thursday, and the team had initially planned to circumvent an injured list stint.

However, Freeland's performance in a bullpen session on Friday raised concerns, as his shoulder did not feel right, prompting the decision to place him on the injured list, with the retroactive date set to Friday. Freeland's stint on the IL comes after a season with the Rockies, where he has compiled a 4-10 record in 23 starts, posting a 6.37 ERA.

He leads the team in strikeouts (103) and innings pitched (124 1/3). To accommodate Freeland's absence, the Rockies have optioned right-hander Blake Adams from Triple-A Albuquerque to take his place on the roster. Adams has a 2-5 record in 17 games with the Albuquerque team, sporting an 8.10 ERA.
