Reformen: Merz will Koalitionäre auf Wirtschaftswachstum einschwören

Just prior to the final days of deliberations for the coalition government and individual parties within the CDU/CSU and SPD, Government Spokesperson Stefan Kornelius emphasized that the central objectives of growth, innovation, and modernization were paramount. Prior to the parliamentary summer recess, the coalition had reached significant decisions.

Kornelius stated that these decisions must now be executed, and the coalition must be persuaded to accelerate this momentum. Without growth, tackling other issues would prove challenging.

The coalition will convene for a two-day plenary session in Neuhardenberg on Tuesday and Wednesday, where the roadmap for implementing reforms will be discussed. On Thursday and Friday, leaders of the governmental factions will meet in Münster. Economic associations and labor unions had urged the government to undertake a wide range of reform steps, some of which are now being reconsidered.

Chancellor Merz expressed critical views on the proposed reduction of pension insurance benefits for caregivers outlined in the care package. The new Minister of Health, Carsten Linnemann from the CDU, has pledged not to implement the proposed cuts. With Chancellor's support and similar stances from the SPD, it appears the initially planned cuts will not take place.
