Reese Alston trims list, and Kentucky Wildcats made the cut

The Kentucky Wildcats have secured the commitment of top high school basketball recruit Reese Alston for their 2027 class. Alston, a five-star point guard from Houston Second Baptist, has included the Wildcats among his top seven programs of interest, according to Joe Tipton of On3. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 175 pounds, Alston ranks No. 9 nationally, No. 3 in the point guard position, and No. 1 overall in Texas in the 2027 class.

His father, Rafer Alston, is a former NBA player who played college ball at Fresno State. Kentucky assistant coach Mikhail McLean has been actively involved in Alston's recruitment, with McLean visiting the recruit on April 29, 2025, and Alston conducting an unofficial visit to Kentucky on October 11. Although Louisville has shown some early interest, there is still ample time for Kentucky and the other programs on Alston's list to make a stronger impact on his recruitment.

As Alston continues to refine his skills during his senior season, Kentucky's persistence in the competition for this highly-rated prospect signals optimism for coach Mark Pope and his team in their efforts to strengthen the class of 2027, which already includes committed 5-star forward Ryan Hampton.
