Red Sox Rehabbers in 'Similar Spot' Approaching Returns

Three Boston Red Sox players, Roman Anthony, Trevor Story, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, may soon be back on the team following their rehabilitation assignments. Interim manager Chad Tracy did not confirm their activation, but he did not dismiss the possibility either, during a press conference before the game against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

"Possibly, but we haven’t talked about that," Tracy said when asked if one of the players could be activated to face the Miami Marlins on Monday. The team is currently in a "check-in" phase, where after each player plays, they are evaluated for readiness and comfort to play more. The Red Sox have not yet decided on the specifics, but it is clear that they plan to welcome reinforcements soon.

All three players—Anthony, who played in four games for Double-A Portland, Story, who played in six games for Triple-A Worcester, and Kiner-Falefa, who played in four games for Triple-A Worcester—appear to be in a similar phase of recovery. They have been down for an extended period and are now working on returning to game speed and playing multiple days in a row.

The Red Sox will use the minor league off day to reassess the players' statuses, and while none of them will be on the team charter for the trip to South Florida on Monday, a decision will be made on whether any will be activated to join the team or if they will return to Worcester to play with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. This decision will raise questions about the roster management once the players rejoin the squad.
