Police arrest five suspects over robbery and murder of gold buyer at Agona Nkwanta

Police have apprehended five individuals linked to the robbery and fatal shooting of a 40-year-old gold dealer named Seth Kobina in Agona Fie, Western Region, on August 20, 2026. The assailants opened fire on the gold-buying shop, leaving Kobina severely injured and later declared deceased upon arrival at the Agona Nkwanta Hospital.

CCTV footage and preliminary investigations led police to suspect Emmanuel Amponsah, known as "Vandam", aged 29, as the gang's alleged leader. On August 21, 2026, Amponsah was apprehended at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta. During his arrest, police discovered a locally made pistol and two live BB cartridges on him. Unfortunately, Amponsah's condition deteriorated while in custody and he too succumbed to his injuries at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

Further probing unearthed the arrest of additional suspects: Christopher Seyiri, known as "Cross and Die", aged 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; Thomas Odoom, called "Wale", 30, all within the Agona Nkwanta vicinity. A fourth suspect, Isaac Quayeson, termed "Last Burial", was taken into custody in Denkyira Kwaboso, Western North Region. Quayeson's residence yielded another locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar, and two cutlasses.

Quayeson implicated Amponsah as the perpetrator who executed Kobina and also recognized Odoom as one of the figures seen in the CCTV footage. Law enforcement authorities stated that these suspects are co-operating with the investigation and efforts are being made to apprehend additional accomplices involved in the robbery and murder.
