PM Anwar inaugurates Malaysia’s latest film landmark

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially inaugurated the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) Tower in Damansara, signaling a new era for Malaysia's film and audiovisual sector within the Orange Economy framework. The ceremony was graced by international guests, industry leaders, and media representatives.

Anwar emphasized the importance of elevating the country's film industry capabilities and cultural significance, advocating for rapid progress with innovative technologies like animation, IT, and AI, while maintaining its core values, language, and identity.

The new Finas Tower, situated on a 5.14-acre plot, began construction on January 20, 2021, and has transformed into the nation's premier film industry hub. Communications and Multimedia Minister Fahmi Fadzil highlighted the building's modern amenities, including Dewan Panca Delima, two sound stages, the P. Ramlee Digital Cinema, training areas, a Mediatheque, a Museum of Moving Image, and a Film Vault.

The Film Vault functions as the national audiovisual archive repository, currently housing 81,770 collections. On December 18, 2025, the tower received its Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC), followed by its Certificate of Practical Completion on May 22, 2026.

Fahmi Fadzil unveiled that Finas will serve as a catalyst for strengthening Malaysia's creative industry and safeguarding its audiovisual heritage. Following a phased transition, Finas commenced full operations from the tower on August 6, 2026. Finas Chairman Datuk Hans Isaac hailed the new building as a crucial milestone for Malaysia's creative sector, stressing the importance of diligent and sincere efforts from those within the industry to bolster its growth.

He urged the industry to fully utilize the facilities, emphasizing the site's historical significance and urging its preservation.
