Pemandu e-panggilan didakwa cuba bunuh, bakar wanita di Kepong

A 58-year-old e-scooter driver, Ang Kam Tong, appeared in Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today, denying charges of attempting to murder a wealthy woman by burning her with petrol in Kepong at the start of this month. Ang was asked to confess after the charges were read out to Judge Surita Budin. He is accused of attempting to kill Gan Siew Teen, 62, by burning her with petrol until she suffered severe injuries. The charge occurred at a prediction shop in Taman Pusat Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, at 7:51 am on August 9th.

The prosecution argued that Ang should be held liable under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison if found guilty. Defence counsel, Lee Keng Fatt, representing Ang, requested the court not to grant bail on the grounds that Ang may flee while in custody. He also argued that the court should consider the third-degree burn suffered by the victim.

However, Ang's lawyer claimed his client is innocent until proven guilty, adding that he is still young, works as an e-scooter driver, and has no stable income. Additionally, Ang's relatives are willing to provide a RM15,000 surety if the court grants bail. The court granted bail with a RM15,000 surety and set the trial for September 25th.
