Oti NPP Communication Director alleges region receives fewer birds under ‘Nkoko nkitinkiti’; NDC debunks claim

Seidu Musah, the Oti Regional Communication Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claims that a mere 810 birds have been delivered under the 'Nkoko Nkitinkiti' programme to the Oti Region. He suggests these beneficiaries are predominantly from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). Musah questioned whether this limited number of birds is sufficient to meet the needs of the people in the region, taking into account the population, number of communities and the size of the NDC’s membership there.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency, he said, despite being in office for around 1.5 years and nearing its second year, there are no substantial achievements to demonstrate this period in the region. He criticized the government for failing to meet the expectations of residents, despite numerous promises made. He also called for increased transparency in the implementation of the Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative, specifically on the number of birds distributed, the selection of beneficiaries, and their geographical spread.

Musah affirmed that the NPP would keep monitoring government initiatives and hold the administration accountable for its promises. However, he emphasized that the effectiveness of government programs should be judged based on their impact on ordinary citizens, not political considerations. He urged the government to focus on projects that would directly improve the livelihoods of farmers, young people, women, and small-scale entrepreneurs.

Investigations by the Ghana News Agency, corroborated by Mr. Williams Ntoso, Deputy Director of Communication for the Oti Region of the NDC, refute Musah's assertion. He stated that the Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative did not deliver just 810 birds to the region. According to Ntoso, each of the nine Municipal and District Assemblies in the Oti Region received 10,000 birds, resulting in a total of 90,000 birds distributed.

He urged the public to disregard Musah's claim, insisting that the actual figure is 90,000 birds. Ntoso affirmed that the programme is being implemented throughout the region and is aimed at supporting beneficiaries and enhancing their livelihoods.
