Nintendo Continues Takedown Of 401 Switch Emulator Repositories On GitHub

Nintendo, renowned for its stringent legal approach in the gaming industry, recently successfully pursued 401 GitHub repositories related to Switch emulators. These repositories encompassed various emulators, including forks of Suyu and Yuzu. Importantly, the 401 figure doesn't imply separate emulators, but rather that one emulator could spawn hundreds of similar repositories.

Suyu, for instance, had over 300 repositories linked to Nintendo. The specific emulators and their counts were as follows: Suyu with 311 repositories, Skyline with 29, yuzu-EA4176 with 21 forks, MonoNX with 17 forks, NicolasArvani/yuzu with 14 repositories, yuzu-android with 8 repositories, and IpwnedU/yuzu-master with 1 repository.

Nintendo alleges that these emulators bypass the company's protection mechanisms and utilize its cryptographic keys, thus infringing upon the anti-circumvention provisions of the DMCA. Notably, Nintendo has previously forced emulator creator Tropic Haze to pay US$2.4 million and surrender all related information. Moreover, the company has also imprisoned console hacker Gary Bowser for 40 months and ordered him to pay US$14.5 million in damages.
