Nigeria: Residents Trapped As Flood Submerges Houses in Akwa Ibom Council

In Akwa Ibom Council, Nigeria, residents faced the peril of flooding that submerged their homes, according to a report by the Radiant Care Foundation (RCF). The NGO provided free medical services to 100 visually impaired individuals in Anguwan Makafi, Bauchi metropolis, as part of its Project THRIVE 1.0. The outreach aimed to bridge the healthcare gap faced by vulnerable community members, particularly those with disabilities, by offering basic health screening, malaria testing and treatment, health education, medical consultations, essential drugs, and long-lasting insecticidal nets for malaria prevention.

The foundation's executive director, Aliyu Miriam Ohunene, emphasized the importance of early detection and treatment of common ailments such as malaria, as cost often prevents residents from seeking timely medical care, potentially worsening their health conditions. The deputy executive director, Daniel Aliyu, outlined the programme's focus on promoting health equity for persons with disabilities, while the deputy director of Primary Healthcare, Bauchi LGA, commended the NGO's intervention, pledging continued support.

Community leader Abdullahi Jibrin appealed to the government to address the unique needs of its residents, urging sustained efforts to provide adequate healthcare and social services.
