Niagara police renew call for help solving case of 8 horses stabbed last year

Police in the Niagara Region have once again implored the public for assistance in solving a case of animal cruelty involving eight horses that were stabbed last year. On July 31, 2025, Niagara Regional Police Service initiated an investigation after farm staff in Welland, Ontario noticed that eight horses had sustained injuries that appeared to be the result of cuts or stab wounds during a regular morning inspection.

The incident is thought to have taken place sometime between July 30 and July 31. Six of the horses were treated on the farm, while one required emergency care at a hospital outside the area. Tragically, one horse was found deceased on the scene. The police described the incident as a "disturbing act of animal cruelty." As a year has passed, the officers have issued a renewed plea for information on Monday, urging the public to come forward with any details that could aid their ongoing investigation.

Individuals with pertinent information are encouraged to contact the police at 905-688-4111, option three, and then extension 1009487. Anonymously, tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or through their online portal. —with files from Global News’ Gabby Rodrigues.
