NEP 2020 Implementation: Bengal To Seek NCERT Help For Teacher Training, Curriculum

West Bengal is accelerating the full implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and will soon collaborate with NCERT for teacher support, as announced by State School Education Minister Dipak Barman on Monday. Speaking at a state-level workshop, Barman emphasized that the state was somewhat lagging in the implementation process and that expeditious efforts were being made to complete it.

NCERT support for teachers is to be provided through the signing of an MoU, which will facilitate orientation programs for teachers and provide technical and academic guidance for implementing the new education framework. The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) will guide the preparation of textbooks and curriculum, including teaching methodologies and assessment methods.

Textbooks based on the new framework will be implemented from the 2028 academic year, with NCERT's cooperation. Additionally, Barman addressed concerns about inaccurate UDISE+ data, particularly related to private schools that have not uploaded student-related information, leading to an incorrect portrayal of school enrollment. He clarified that ground reality differed and urged these schools to provide complete data on the portal to present a more accurate picture of West Bengal's education landscape.
