The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a rare arrest of a 101-year-old great-grandmother in Ilisan, Ogun State, for allegedly selling cannabis. The centenarian was apprehended on August 15, 2026, with 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, which she reportedly admitted selling in small quantities. Her arrest came after a fire destroyed her provisions shop, leading her to venture into the illicit drug trade.

The NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), directed that she be granted bail and subjected to counselling due to her advanced age. Her daughter was also arrested in connection with the alleged drug trade. In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives intercepted a wooden boat allegedly carrying illicit drugs to fishing settlements in Cameroon, seizing about 42.622kg of narcotics, including 42.06kg of skunk, other quantities of cannabis, and 20 grammes of cocaine.

Additionally, two containers of cannabis indica, or Loud, were intercepted at the Apapa and Lekki ports in Lagos, with an estimated street value of over N4.4 billion.
