Nathan Cofnas on whether he feels responsible for Jason Arday’s death

On August 17, 2026, a memorial was set up outside the Senate House in Cambridge, England, for Jason Arday, a former professor. In March 2023, Arday became the youngest Black professor at the University of Cambridge. Despite a personal story of challenges, including being unable to speak until age 11 and read or write until age 18, he achieved a PhD from Liverpool John Moores University.

However, his rise was marred by allegations of plagiarism in his 2015 doctoral thesis. Arday announced his resignation due to the intense scrutiny and personal attacks. Tragically, nine days later, he was found dead in his home.
