Music Review: Mike D 5D’s debut solo album ‘Thank You’ offers glitchy, post-Beastie Boy fun

Former Beastie Boy Michael Diamond, known as Mike D 5D, has released his debut solo album "Thank You," the first new music from the Beastie Boys' camp since Adam "MCA" Yauch's death in 2012. The album, set to drop on Friday, showcases Mike D's high-volume and energetic style, blending glitchy, post-Beastie Boy sounds. Joined by his sons Skyler and Davis Diamond, along with Eddie Ruscha, Will Graefe, and Milo Ruscha, the album features stuttering drum and bass breaks, distressed vocals, and vintage synth elements.

While some tracks like "Secrets Pt. II" lack lyrical depth, songs like "Switch Up" and "What We Got" demonstrate Mike D's ability to traverse new sonic ground. The track "I Don't Care" stands out, offering a down-tempo pace and reflecting on responsibilities and emotional returns.
