Murang’a women demand apology from Gachagua over remarks on women leaders

Women from Murang’a County have demanded an apology from DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua after alleging he has repeatedly criticized female leaders during his visits to the region. Virginia Wanjiku, one of the accusers, specifically referenced remarks Gachagua allegedly made against Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, calling her a mother and accusing him of targeting female leaders.

Wanjiku defended Wahome’s political career and appointment to Cabinet, stating that Gachagua’s actions are disrespectful to elected women leaders. Another speaker, Fraciah Nganga, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that women would respond through their votes if their leaders were disrespected and questioning Gachagua’s conduct towards women.

The women firmly rejected the insults they claim Gachagua directed at them, with the crowd responding with "TUMEKATAA!" Nganga also noted that her perception of Gachagua had shifted following what she perceived as disrespectful treatment of women leaders. The DCP leader has not yet publicly responded to the accusations or the women's demand for an apology.
