Mumbai Debuts On IWG 2026 Work From Anywhere Index With 77 Score, Only Indian City In Global Ranking

Mumbai has become the latest addition to the 2026 Work From Anywhere Index, debuting with a score of 77, making it the sole Indian city featured in the global ranking. The fourth edition of the index, released by IWG, evaluates cities based on climate, broadband connectivity, accommodation, transport, culture, food, and availability of flexible workspaces.

While Mumbai excels in transport costs, flexible workplace availability, climate, and accommodation, it falls short in broadband speed and quality, availability of local events, and happiness index. This ranking reflects the increasing trend towards work-from-anywhere arrangements, where employees can mix holidays with remote work without taking extended leave.

India's flexible office infrastructure is also on the rise, with the country holding the highest flexible workspace maturity index score of 100, as reported by Cushman & Wakefield's 2025 Global Trends in Flexible Office. Mumbai is part of the growing flexible workspace market in India, alongside Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Pune, and Hyderabad.

Despite its score, Mumbai lags behind other leading destinations like Bangkok, Tokyo, and Barcelona. The index highlights that successful workcation destinations need to offer reliable connectivity, transport, accommodation, and flexible workspaces, combined with favorable lifestyle factors such as food, culture, and local experiences.

A recent IWG survey among 2,000 hybrid office workers in the UK and US found that 51% of workers have a work-from-anywhere policy offered by their employers, with positive impacts on work-life balance, productivity, and job attraction.
