More promoters join the Albuquerque boxing scene

Two additional Albuquerque-based boxing promotional firms are on the verge of entering the scene. Prime Time Promotions, a venture that encompasses former New Mexico Athletic Commission Executive Secretary Richard Espinoza, is scheduled to host an event on October 3, pending NMAC approval. Meanwhile, Moreu Boxing Promotions, spearheaded by Albuquerque Latin music DJ and concert promoter Keith "Pancho" Quiñones, formally announced its formation on Instagram, aiming to make boxer Yoruba Moreu II the key figure.

Both promoters emphasized their commitment to providing more opportunities for fighters. Despite having no event scheduled yet, Moreu Sr. clarified that his son's participation on an Moreu Boxing card is not guaranteed, should he decide to move on to another promoter after a few fights. Quiñones, on the other hand, is the licensed promoter, having received approval from the athletic commission in July.

The boxing enthusiast expressed his disappointment with the lack of opportunities for Yoruba after his successful amateur career, where he boasts a 3-0 record with three knockouts but hasn't fought since January. Quiñones proposed the collaboration with Moreu family to ensure Yoruba gets the platform he deserves. Additionally, two more boxing events are set to be presented for athletic commission approval at Wednesday's meeting.

Holmes Boxing plans to stage a card on October 24 at Ohkay Hotel Casino, while Legacy Promotions is scheduled to hold a card on November 14 at the Albuquerque Convention Center's Kiva Auditorium. A WBA interim flyweight title bout featuring Albuquerque's Abraham Perez is also on the horizon, with Perez looking to defend his title after a split decision victory over Jonathan Gonzalez in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Unfortunately, Albuquerque Muay Thai fighter Nick Gjelaj suffered a tough loss in Houston when a physician deemed him unable to continue due to a facial cut, resulting in his defeat to Hawaii's Noa Moniz.
