Minnesota’s kicking competition muddied by NCAA eligibility court ruling

College football’s place kicking competition in Minnesota has become muddled by an NCAA eligibility court ruling. Brady Denaburg, who played for the Gophers last year, is once again in the running for the position following the federal judge’s July 31 ruling. The NCAA initially excluded that high school class from the “five-for-five” rule, but the ruling was temporarily halted by an appeals court.

Indiana’s national championship defense has also been affected, with the university welcoming back two starting defensive linemen following the initial ruling. The confusion has also spilled over to the Gophers, with multiple kickers in the mix for the opening game against Eastern Illinois.
