Mike Birbiglia Sets Focus Comedy ‘Old Friends New Friends’; Lucas Hedges, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Geraldine Viswanathan & Dylan Gelula To Star

Focus Features has approved the production of "Old Friends New Friends," a comedy film directed by Mike Birbiglia. Birbiglia will also serve as a producer alongside Jacob Jaffke and Joe Hartwick for Oddball Entertainment. The film will feature an ensemble cast including Lucas Hedges, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Dylan Gelula.

The movie's premise revolves around a close-knit group of college friends who travel to a summer camp for their old friend's wedding. However, they soon discover that their friend has built a new life with new friends, forcing them to reflect on what they've lost, how they've changed, and whether growing up means drifting apart.

Birbiglia, a renowned Emmy-nominated comedian, has previously directed and written two features - "Sleepwalk With Me" (2012) and "Don't Think Twice" (2016). He has also acted in films like "Trainwreck" (2015) and "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping" (2016), as well as on television shows such as "Orange Is the New Black" (2013-2019) and "Billions" (2016-present).

Additionally, he has performed four comedy specials for Netflix, with his latest being "The Good Life" (2022). This year has been particularly successful for Focus, with their horror film "Obsession" grossing over $500 million, making it the studio's highest-grossing movie. Upcoming projects at Focus include "The Uprising" directed by Paul Greengrass, a new adaptation of "Sense and Sensibility," and Robert Eggers' "Werwulf," a sequel to his "The Witch" (2015).

Birbiglia is represented by UTA and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham, while his cast members have various representation agencies. Oddball Entertainment, the production company behind "Old Friends New Friends," is represented by CAA and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher.
