Massachusetts woman suspected of killing husband found dead

Karen Solomon, a Massachusetts woman who had been missing for six days, was found dead on Monday, six days after she disappeared from her home following the tragic death of her husband, Kurt Solomon, a Worcester police officer. Karen, a mental health advocate who had previously called for improvements and greater awareness regarding police mental health issues, had been suspected of killing her husband.

She was reportedly found dead near human remains, though a final identification was pending at the time of reporting. A handgun found near her body was not identified as a Worcester police service weapon, and investigators were working to determine its ownership. The case was described as a tragic murder-suicide by the Worcester police chief, Paul Saucier.

Kurt Solomon, who served 31 years in the department, had been mortally injured with a sharp object. Karen was named a suspect in connection with her husband's death and was later charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. An extensive law enforcement search, involving local, state, and federal agencies, was conducted in the area surrounding the couple's home and a nearby reservoir.

Authorities had deployed drones, boats, and tracking dogs in their efforts to locate Karen. The Solomon family expressed their gratitude towards law enforcement for providing answers during a challenging time, stating that the compassion and dedication of the agencies involved brought them light in the midst of darkness. A wake for Kurt Solomon was scheduled for Tuesday, with his funeral taking place on Wednesday.
