Manilva checks life-saving defibrillators as residents encouraged to learn where to find a life-saving AED is

Manilva is inspecting and updating its network of life-saving defibrillators, following several devices being used in cardiac emergencies. The town's DESA units, similar to AEDs (automated external defibrillators), are being checked, inventoried, and maintained ready for use. The review comes after reports of the devices being used by local police, with one police car carrying a defibrillator that has already been used to provide first aid to someone in cardiac arrest.

According to Andalucia guidance, every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces survival chances by approximately 10 percent. AEDs are designed for use outside hospitals and can guide the user through the process, making them vital before an ambulance arrives. Manilva's health services are conducting an inventory of defibrillators and training personnel as part of a broader initiative to install units throughout the area.

Some schools, such as CEIP Pablo Picasso and IES Las Viñas, have had their equipment checked and updated in 2025. Local sports facilities, like Pabellon Las Viñas and Ciudad Deportiva de Sabinillas, also have defibrillators, but access might depend on opening hours. The locations known to have AEDs for 2025/26 include Punta Chullera, Torre Dieguichi, beach medical modules at Sabinillas and La Duquesa, but their 24-hour availability should be confirmed before relying on them.
