Mahama officially nominates James Agalga as Acting Majority Leader

President John Dramani Mahama officially nominated James Agalga, Member of Parliament for Builsa North, as Acting Majority Leader of Parliament on Monday, August 24. The nomination was communicated during the emergency sitting of Parliament, which was called by the President. Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin read the President's letter conveying the nomination to Members of Parliament.

This development coincides with Parliament's five-day emergency sitting, set to begin on Monday and end on Friday. The sitting will focus on urgent business outlined by the President, including the nominations of three individuals to the Supreme Court, two ministerial nominees, and the passage of the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Amendment Bill.

Speaker Bagbin has instructed the House to confine its proceedings to the matters for which it was recalled, with no additional business to be admitted during the emergency session.
