Lindsay Clancy defense calls for mistrial after witness brings up Clancy's Catholic faith

A forensic psychologist testifying at Lindsay Clancy's murder trial for her three children's killings revealed that she has bipolar disorder and was dealing with anxiety, depression, insomnia and suicidal thoughts in the weeks leading up to the tragic event in January 2023.

Forensic psychologist Kirk Heilbrun came to a different conclusion compared to a forensic psychiatrist who testified earlier. Heilbrun found no evidence to support a bipolar diagnosis or psychosis in Clancy, while another expert believed she had postpartum psychosis.

Clancy's attorney Kevin Reddington does not deny the murder, but argues that she should not be held criminally responsible due to her postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder. Prosecutors claim Clancy planned the killings and deceived her husband into going out by sending him for medicine and dinner.

Heilbrun had a difficult time diagnosing Clancy with bipolar 2 disorder due to various diagnoses in her medical records and her reported positive feelings following the birth of her children. He mentioned Clancy's insomnia, negative medication reactions, anxiety about work and childcare, and intrusive thoughts of harming herself, although she did not report hallucinations or suicidal thoughts during her psychiatric hospitalization.
