‘Lanterns’ Episode 2: Who Is Sinestro?

In the second episode of "Lanterns," Hal Jordan, portrayed by Kyle Chandler, discovers the existence of Manhunters from an elderly John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre, who learned the information from the enigmatic Antaan. The next day, Hal dons his Green Lantern suit and travels to space, eventually encountering Sinestro, a pink-skinned, mustachioed alien played by Ulrich Thomsen.

Sinestro was once a member of the Green Lantern Corps but is now Hal Jordan's arch-nemesis and equal. Introduced in "Green Lantern #7" by John Broome and Gil Kane in 1961, Sinestro's history includes being the peacekeeper of Sector 1417, where he ruled Korugar as a dictator due to his power becoming too much for him.

In the comics, Sinestro's origin varies depending on the writer and continuity. Initially, he was considered a Green Lantern until his corruption led him to become dictator over Korugar. In the post-"Crisis on Infinite Earths" story "Emerald Dawn II," he was trained by Hal Jordan and became aware of his corruption when they visited Korugar together.

In recent years, Sinestro has been established as a villain who was never meant to be a Green Lantern. His ring, originally given to him by an alien crash-landing on Korugar, was altered to use yellow energy. Sinestro created an army of Yellow Lanterns, including the Anti-Monitor, Parallax, and Superboy-Prime, to battle the Green Lanterns during the "Sinestro Corps War" crossover event.
