Künstliche Intelligenz: Siemens-Healthineers-Chef: „Brauchen keine KI-Strategie“

Siemens Healthineers, a medical technology manufacturer, views artificial intelligence (AI) not as an end goal, but as a valuable tool on the path to improved healthcare. The company's CEO, Bernd Montag, told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur that AI may not inherently make medical technology better, but it will make it more efficient.

Montag clarified that when asked about Siemens Healthineers' AI strategy, the response is that the company does not need one, as AI is not an endpoint. Instead, the focus is on defeating cancer, with the company considering how AI can play a role in this pursuit. However, the ultimate goal remains better cancer therapies, according to Montag.

The company's strategy centers on diagnosing and treating diseases that are primarily responsible for a large number of deaths: cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and strokes. These health systems face not only the challenge of affordability but also a growing shortage of medical professionals. Montag explained that the challenge is to determine how AI can effectively assist in removing certain routine tasks to improve the overall healthcare system.
