Justin Kodua urges delegates to endorse him ahead of October polls

Justin Kodua, the incumbent General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged delegates to re-elect him for the party's October national executive elections. Kodua argues that his continued leadership is crucial for strengthening the party and bringing it back to the Jubilee House in 2029. He made the appeal after filing his nomination for the general secretary position at the NPP headquarters on Monday, August 24.

Kodua expressed confidence in his ability to lead the party through its reorganization following its defeat in the 2024 general election. He stressed that despite the loss, the NPP remains a strong political force. "The New Patriotic Party continued to remain a strong party," Kodua said. Following the 2024 defeat, the NPP faced turbulence in 2025, characterized by tension, confusion, acrimony, disagreements, and uncertainty. Some party members were concerned about the party's future.

In response, Kodua made a bold decision to elect the party's presidential candidate before conducting other internal elections. This decision, though unpopular at the time, helped restore calm and stability within the party. Kodua acknowledged that the decision attracted criticism but maintained that it ultimately benefited the party.

He also highlighted his role in reorganizing the NPP, pointing to successful internal elections at various levels, including polling stations, electoral areas, constituencies, and regions. Kodua credits his leadership for guiding the party through this reorganization, resulting in a peaceful and successful process. He emphasized that the party's spirit is back, and the NPP is focused on building a united and effective organization ahead of the 2028 general election.

Kodua urged delegates to elect executives who will work towards securing victory for the party and ensuring that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia becomes the President of Ghana. He stressed the importance of maintaining a strong working relationship between the General Secretary's office and the party's flagbearer. Kodua believes that retaining him will preserve the cordial relationship between the party's administrative leadership and the office of the flagbearer.

With the October 3 elections in Kumasi, Kodua expects the contest to be an endorsement of his leadership, as the NPP seeks to consolidate its structures and rebuild after its 2024 electoral losses.
