Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has reduced his threat to sue GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi over defamatory allegations. In a Facebook post on Saturday, August 22, 2026, Afenyo-Markin said he would pursue legal remedies against Gyamfi for the claims that portrayed him as an "extortionist." However, the following day, he softened his stance on JoyNews, quoting the biblical example of Jesus Christ who remained silent when accused.

Afenyo-Markin cited the biblical example to stress that he would not react emotionally to the allegations. He emphasized the expectation of maturity from him as the Member of Parliament for Effutu and the leader of the NPP, and urged him to remain focused on important issues rather than reacting to emotional bait.
