It's a new era at POST, but old friendships endure

The German hard-rock band Scorpions’ hit song title aptly describes the transformation happening at the POST newspaper. The esteemed publication has been taken over by National Media Group and now boasts a new executive editor, Mervyn Naidoo. Naidoo, a familiar face, previously served as a sports writer for POST and held positions at other titles within the group. He graciously welcomed back to the newspaper, recalling their past collaboration when the reporter served as a sub-editor.

Naidoo may seem reserved at first, but as one gets to know him, he reveals himself to be a refined gentleman with a vast general knowledge, impeccable manners, and exceptional skills in the media field. Their bond deepened over their shared passion for music, with Naidoo discussing various topics, including Michael Jackson’s early song "Ben." The reporter, unfamiliar with the track, quickly researched it, discovering that "Ben" was a reference to the character Jackson sang about.

The reporter also reminisced about their friendship with outgoing editor Yogas Nair, who presided over page one of POST during the reporter’s tenure. Naidoo was the reporter’s wedding master of ceremonies. As for past editors like Dennis Pather, the LEGENDARY editor, whose passion for media was unparalleled, the reporter acknowledges the nation's loss and the profound impact of his absence.

Pather, who passed away in December 2025, was more than a colleague; he was a friend, a brother, and a source of inspiration. The reporter expresses deep sorrow over his untimely demise, emphasizing that his larger-than-life presence will never be forgotten.
