‘It was exciting’ – Republic Bank executive recounts huge turnout at Habitat Fair

Republic Bank executive Dan Adjetey Morhenu described the 2026 JoyNews-Republic Bank Habitat Fair as "exciting," noting a long queue formed at the Achimota Retail Centre on opening day, August 21. The event attracted diverse attendees, including bankers, government workers, and expatriates, who sought information on homeownership, mortgage financing, and housing solutions.

Morhenu emphasized that Republic Bank's mortgage team had to extend operations beyond the scheduled closing time on the opening day due to high interest. The bank interacted with customers from various backgrounds, urging them to take time in making mortgage decisions, as it is a long-term commitment. A frequently asked question was the minimum salary required for a mortgage, to which Morhenu clarified that there is no fixed minimum threshold.

He explained that the bank offers different mortgage options based on income levels, with lower-income customers starting with land acquisition and progressing to construction, while higher-income customers may purchase completed properties. Republic Bank's fixed mortgage rates provide customers with financial certainty, helping them manage cash flow throughout the repayment period.

The bank also assisted customers with US dollar-denominated mortgage loans by refinancing them into cedi facilities in 2022. Mortgage Specialist Elizabeth Abena Anokware Amedeka thanked the public for the strong turnout, expressing gratitude for the insightful questions and renewed commitment to supporting customers throughout the mortgage process.
