Iraq's Australian coach Arnold renews contract for six months

On August 24, Iraq's Australian coach Graham Arnold extended his contract with the national team until 2027, according to the Iraqi Football Association (IFA). The 63-year-old coach confirmed his continued leadership during major tournaments, including the Gulf Cup in Saudi Arabia and the Asian Cup early next year. Arnold revealed that he accepted the renewed contract for six months, stating it was in his best interest and that of the Iraq national team.

Despite the association offering a four-year extension, Arnold maintained his decision. The Australian coach led Iraq to the 2022 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, marking a significant achievement after a 40-year absence from the tournament. However, Iraq's performance in the group stage resulted in elimination following losses against Norway, France, and Senegal.
