Iran live updates: Tanker struck by projectile as US and Iran trade threats

An "economic D-Day" is looming for Iran, warned a U.S. official on Sunday. President Donald Trump declared major combat operations against Iran on February 28, with joint U.S.-Israeli strikes targeting multiple sites. Delegations from the U.S. and Iran held negotiations in June for a war-ending deal, but tensions remain high, especially around the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

On Monday, the UK Marine Trade Operations reported that an unknown projectile struck a tanker off the coast of Saudi Arabia, causing a fire on the main deck. The ship was about 63 nautical miles from Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. All crew members were safe and accounted for, and no environmental impact was reported.

Iranian officials vowed not to export any oil while the U.S. continues its economic war. Mohsen Rezaee, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, stated on X, "If the economic war continues, not a single drop of oil will be exported, neither through the Strait of Hormuz nor from anywhere in the Persian Gulf."

Iran also threatened to restrict vessel movements in the Strait of Hormuz if countries support the U.S. in its economic war. The Persian Gulf Strait Authority listed steps vessel owners must take to avoid potential problems, such as reviewing a list of non-compliant vessels.

These developments follow President Trump's announcement on his social media platform that the U.S. is initiating the "MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY."
