Injured Colts special teams coordinator plans to be on the sideline for Indy’s season opener

Indianapolis Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason, who suffered a seventh major knee injury during the team's preseason game against New England, announced on Monday that he plans to return to the sideline for the team's season opener against Baltimore on September 13. Mason sustained the injury during the final play of the game when Colts quarterback Riley Leonard's Hail Mary pass caused several players to roll into his legs.

He initially worked from the press box during the preseason before Coach Shane Steichen stated that Mason would be on the sideline for the regular season. Mason emphasized the importance of being on the sideline for effective communication with players, stating that he needed to quickly relay information to middle linebackers, safety Cam Bynum, and quarterbacks.

Mason has a history of knee injuries, having torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) multiple times during high school, college, and his coaching career. Despite the latest injury, he remains determined to return to the sideline soon, showcasing his resilience and toughness.
