Injured Colts special teams coordinator plans to be on the sideline for Indy’s season opener

Indianapolis Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason plans to return to the sideline for the team’s season opener on September 13 against the Baltimore Ravens. Mason sustained a seventh major knee injury during the Colts’ first preseason game against New England. He remained on the ground after the final play, clutching his left knee as trainers rushed to assess his condition.

Mason returned to practice a few days later wearing a protective brace and expressed his intention to be on the sideline for the regular season. He emphasized the importance of being present on the sideline for effective communication with players and making quick adjustments during games. Mason’s previous knee injuries include two ACL tears sustained in high school and college, a torn ACL while playing basketball at Butler University, and another major injury during landscaping in 2021.

Despite his extensive history of injuries, Mason remains focused on his role as a coach and is determined to make a full recovery.
