Han So-hee says being cast in 'The Intern' remake felt like once-in-a-lifetime opportunity

Actress Han So-hee expressed on Monday that the chance to star in the Korean remake of the Hollywood hit "The Intern" (2015) felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. In the remake, Han plays Sun-woo, a workaholic CEO of a fashion startup who hires the elderly Ki-ho, played by Choi Min-sik, as part of company efforts to reduce taxes.

Choi's character, a retired family man in his late 60s, had a 37-year career in the publishing industry. His key strengths include tidying up, driving, and engaging in friendly conversations. Kim Do-young, the film's director, noted that ten years have passed since the original film's release, and the remake aims to reflect Korean audiences' joie de vivre and worldview.

Han acknowledged the pressure that comes with a role previously portrayed by Anne Hathaway in the original film, but she chose to focus on her own character portrayal. Choi, too, admitted to the pressure of working on a remake of such a globally popular hit. However, he emphasized that he and the other actors did their best to make the film authentic and relatable for Korean office workers of all ages.

The director herself highlighted that 10 years of changes in worldviews and generational trends have been incorporated into the film, making it more realistic and grounded in reality.
