Hadi: Perikatan and BN already in talks for Melaka state election pact

Melaka, August 24 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN) are reportedly engaged in discussions to potentially form a cooperation pact ahead of the upcoming state elections, according to PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang. The negotiations, initiated by central leadership representatives from both coalitions, commenced three days ago, as reported by Sinar Harian.

While the preliminary stages are still ongoing, Abdul Hadi expressed optimism about the progress, stating that preparations at the party level have begun and are currently active. He emphasized that the discussions have shown promising results, drawing inspiration from previous successes in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.

Abdul Hadi cautioned that the formal alliance is still in its early stages, but he highlighted the positive momentum in the talks. He noted that the timing of the polls remains uncertain, but the groundwork for cooperation is already underway. PN Chief Whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan echoed similar sentiments on Saturday, confirming that both sides are nearing a mutual understanding.

However, Takiyuddin clarified that the finer details of the cooperation, particularly the allocation of state seats, are yet to be finalized.

The confirmation of these talks has elicited positive responses from various quarters. In attendance at a recent fundraiser dinner were PN chairman and PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, and Melaka PAS commissioner Zulkifli Ismail.
