Fuel subsidy could exist without long queues at petrol stations – Rufai

Arise TV's Rufai Oseni, during a segment on the network's 'Morning Show', argued that fuel subsidies could still be viable in Nigeria without causing long queues at petrol stations. He claimed that the recent addition of the Dangote Refinery has brought oil production closer to the market, potentially eliminating scarcity concerns regardless of the subsidy status.

Oseni further contended that the intended recipients of subsidies aren't ordinary Nigerians, but rather individuals with substantial infrastructure and contracts, whom he labeled as "crony capitalists". "The argument that we don't want to return to the days of long queues is misguided," he clarified. "What led to those queues previously was due to import logistics issues.

With Dangote now producing locally, that scenario is no longer a concern." He emphasized that even with ongoing subsidies, long queues could be avoided because production is now closer to the end consumer.
