Flooded Road Forces Family To Carry Body On Floating Drums In MP's Rewa

In the village of Rauli, under Jawa block in Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh, a family faced an unimaginable challenge following the submersion of their access road by floodwaters. Motilal Tiwari, a resident of the village, had passed away at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa. Upon his return to Rauli, the family discovered that the road leading to their home had been entirely blocked by the floodwaters, rendering standard vehicles and usual routes useless.

Unable to find an alternative means to transport the body home, the villagers innovatively used several drums to create a makeshift raft. They carefully placed the body atop the floating drums and slowly maneuvered it through the floodwaters, successfully bringing the body back to their home. The harrowing scene of the funeral procession amidst the raging floodwaters was captured in a viral video that shed light on the inadequacy of disaster management systems in rural areas.

Collector Narendra Suryavanshi informed the Free Press that the Collector had provided a boat to assist in transporting people during the floods. However, the Sarpanch had provided drums for the family to use in this dire situation. The incident, which occurred in Rauli Gram Panchayat and the Sirmour assembly constituency, has brought to the forefront the severe impact of floods on the daily lives of rural residents and the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.
