First National Bank Pioneers Financial Literacy Programme For PWDs

First National Bank Ghana has launched a Financial Literacy Training Programme for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), collaborating with the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD). The inaugural program, held in Accra, attracted more than 40 attendees who were instructed in two of the Bank's key financial literacy modules: "Understanding My Money" and "Growing My Money."

The program's aim is to equip participants with practical knowledge to make informed financial choices and enhance their economic prosperity. It emphasizes effective money management, personal and business banking, and savings and investment strategies, all aimed at fostering long-term financial stability among PWDs. This initiative is part of First National Bank's overall strategy to make banking more inclusive and to promote financial literacy among marginalized groups.

Akweley Laryea, Head of Retail Banking at First National Bank Ghana, emphasized that true financial inclusion means not only providing access to banking services but also equipping individuals with the necessary knowledge, confidence, and support to make informed decisions and achieve their financial goals. She stressed that the Bank views financial inclusion as a responsibility towards its diverse customer base and stakeholders, affirming their commitment to enhancing products, services, and employee capabilities to create a more accessible and empowering banking experience for all.

The financial literacy program builds upon a recent partnership between First National Bank and the GFD, aimed at improving the Bank's ability to serve PWDs effectively. The collaboration includes a specialized training for Bank employees on disability inclusion, conducted by GFD experts. Senior Disability Inclusion Advisor at the GFD, Rebecca Nunoo, praised First National Bank for its proactive stance in advancing accessibility and inclusion within the financial services sector.

She highlighted the Bank's efforts to educate the community on financial matters and to train its employees to better understand and support the unique needs of persons with disabilities, recognizing such partnerships as essential for creating lasting impact and ensuring equitable economic participation in Ghana.
