Firefighters are trying to stop a fast-moving Nevada wildfire from spreading to homes in Reno

RENO, Nevada (AP) — A wildfire that exploded over the weekend in the Sierra Nevada foothills threatened to engulf homes in Reno, Nevada, prompting officials to evacuate more than 90,000 residents. The out-of-control fire has scorched over 23 square miles (60 square kilometers) across foothills bordered by neighborhoods near the California state line.

Despite zero containment, firefighters worked tirelessly to prevent the flames from spreading into densely populated areas. The Hawk Fire, which authorities suspect to be human-caused, has already forced the closure of schools and left at least six individuals injured, including three first responders and three civilians. As residents struggled to evacuate, Ruby Delatorre, a local resident, expressed her distress, stating, "Honestly, I thought it was like in a movie."
