FBR Ends Unnecessary Checks of Registered Shopkeepers

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has expressed its commitment to small shopkeepers, stating that registered retailers can fulfill their tax obligations through a 1 percent turnover tax under the government’s Retailer Scheme. Bilal Azhar Kayani, Minister of State for Finance, highlighted this during a session at FBR Headquarters in Islamabad on Monday.

The scheme offers simplified registration, flexible payment options, and a more straightforward compliance process for small retailers, positioning it as one of the most straightforward tax schemes in Pakistan. FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial emphasized that registered shopkeepers would benefit significantly from the scheme, with green registration plates designed to safeguard compliant retailers from unwarranted tax official scrutiny.

However, Langrial cautioned that traders who do not cooperate with the scheme would face legal consequences. The session also featured a live demonstration of the FBR's digital system, including its web portal and mobile applications for registration and tax services. Trade representatives engaged in the discussion, seeking clarification on registration procedures and tax calculations.
