Fate of Astros Manager Lies With Hands-On Owner Jim Crane

The Houston Astros have announced the dismissal of general manager Dana Brown on Monday, August 24, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the team. This move comes as the Astros recognize that their dominating days in the American League West may be behind them. With Brown's departure, owner Jim Crane will take charge of the team's baseball operations during the transition period, assisted by assistant general managers Charles Cook, Gavin Dickey, and Connor Huff, as well as senior adviser Jeff Bagwell.

The decision lies with the consortium led by Crane, as well as the next permanent general manager, who will determine the fate of manager Joe Espada. Like Brown, Espada's contract expires at the end of the current season.
