Experience-based learning session with Kumar Sangakkara inspires naval personnel in Eastern Naval Command

Former Sri Lanka cricket captain Kumar Sangakkara conducted an interactive learning session for Eastern Naval Command personnel at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee on Sunday, August 23, 2026. Vice Admiral Damian Fernando, the Commander of the Navy, was also present. Sangakkara drew from his own career experiences to advise naval personnel on reaching their professional and personal objectives, both in their naval service and in life outside the service.

The session featured an interactive component, allowing naval personnel to share their perspectives and engage in discussions with the former national captain. He also had the opportunity to watch a cricket tournament being held at the Naval and Maritime Academy during his visit. Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy and Commander of the Eastern Naval Area, along with officers from various ships and establishments in the Eastern Naval Command, naval trainees, and a group of senior and junior sailors, also participated in the event. Kumar Sangakkara was presented with a commemorative token to acknowledge his participation.
