EKO 2026: NSC inspects facilities ahead of maiden National Intermediate Games

The National Sports Authority (NSA) in Ghana has initiated a consultative engagement program with key stakeholders from the sports industry, paving the way for the upcoming Constituency Games slated to take place from October 2026 to March 2027. The Games will span all 276 constituencies and cater to participants aged between 15 and 35 years, aiming to provide structured sporting opportunities throughout the country.

This initiative seeks to offer pathways for young talents to advance from community competitions to national and international stages, fostering national unity, healthy living, and sustainable sports development. NSA Director-General, Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, emphasized during a media consultative session that the Games are non-political, aligning with the long-standing call from the media and many Ghanaians to bolster grassroots sports structures and offer communities regular competitive sports platforms.

The authority's Chairman, Mr Samson Deen, revealed that they have already engaged all national sports federations and will soon visit local government areas, chiefs, community leaders, public and private institutions, and ministers, before concluding with supporters' unions to gather input for the official Handbook. The proposed Games will encompass football, boxing, athletics, and para-athletics, among other disciplines, and envision a biennial event leading up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

NSA is also pursuing sponsorships and partnerships with community-based entities, local corporate bodies, and international firms to support the tournament's launch.
