Eid-e-Milad Processions: Citizens Forum Sends Legal Notice To BMC, Seeks Equal Civic Arrangements By Aug 25

Mumbai, August 24, 2026 - A legal notice has been served to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) by the Govandi Citizens Welfare Forum, demanding equal civic arrangements for Eid-e-Milad processions planned for August 26. Amandeep Singh, on behalf of the forum, asserts that the civic body has not issued ward-wise directions for sanitation, water, medical aid, lighting and traffic arrangements, despite the festival occurring within 48 hours.

The forum argues that the BMC Standing Committee allocated Rs 2 crore annually for these arrangements since November 2019, which includes temporary toilets, sanitation, drinking water, medical posts, ambulances, street lighting and barricading. The forum contends that the decision has not been revoked or modified, and alleges disparities in spending on major festivals, citing Rs 54.47 crore allocated for Ganeshotsav in 2024-25.

The notice demands a public announcement and immediate issuance of ward-wise directives, deployment of sanitation teams, mobile toilets, water tankers, medical posts, lighting and barricades, and operationalization of the Rs 2 crore allocation by 5 pm on August 25. Non-compliance could result in urgent writ proceedings before the Bombay High Court, and citizens reserve the right to hold peaceful protests over the issue.
