Egypt takes official step to save Hossam Hassan from FIFA sanctions

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has formally communicated with FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee in an effort to safeguard Hossam Hassan, Ibrahim Hassan, and Mostafa Zico from potential sanctions. According to RT, the memorandum submitted by the EFA is approximately 90 pages long and includes comprehensive legal responses to all inquiries posed by FIFA following the Egypt-Argentina World Cup match.

The EFA prepared the memorandum under the guidance of international lawyer Mohamed el-Toubgy and the EFA’s legal committee, incorporating the arguments and supporting documents that form the basis of the Egyptian side’s defense. In the memorandum, Egypt maintains that the players did not engage in any misconduct that warranted punishment.

The Egyptian defense asserts that the actions in question were fueled by the emotional intensity of the match and, therefore, do not constitute violations requiring disciplinary action. The Egyptian association also highlighted other incidents from the match, urging FIFA to consider these events in the broader context of the game, rather than isolating the specific actions under scrutiny.

Egypt awaits a response from FIFA's Disciplinary Committee to ascertain the final decision on the alleged misconduct and to determine if any sanctions will be imposed on the three players in question.
