ECB vice-chairman Khalid Al Zarooni elected at Asian Cricket Council as vice president

Khalid Al Zarooni, the UAE-based Emirates Cricket Board Vice-Chairman, has been elected as the Vice-President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) during the organization's Annual General Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand on August 22. The meeting, attended by representatives from all ACC member nations, discussed various governance matters such as changes to the Executive Board, the rotation of the ACC Presidency, and the establishment of several committees.

Al Zarooni's appointment underscores the growing influence of the Emirates Cricket Board in both Asian and international cricket. Since assuming the role of ECB Vice-Chairman, Al Zarooni has been actively involved in the development of cricket in the UAE, with significant progress made by the country's men's, women's and junior teams on the regional stage and their qualification for major ICC tournaments.

Al Zarooni has also played a crucial role in the development of the International League T20 (ILT20), serving as its chairman. The league, launched in 2022, has become one of the premier T20 competitions globally, offering opportunities for UAE and Associate Member players to grow through regional and international partnerships.

The UAE has become a significant hub for international cricket, regularly hosting ICC and ACC events. This week, the country will once again be at the forefront of the cricketing calendar as the eight-team DP World Women’s Asia Cup commences at Dubai International Stadium. As the new Vice-President, Al Zarooni will contribute to the ACC's efforts to promote and develop cricket across Asia, a region with the largest and most passionate fanbase for the sport.

Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, the President of the Asian Cricket Council, praised cricket's role as a unifying force and congratulated Al Zarooni and the newly elected Executive Board Members, acknowledging the unity and cooperation that define the Council.
