EAM Jaishankar meets Russian President Vladimir Putin, focus on trade, energy, fertilisers, high-tech

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday, ahead of scheduled meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Putin. During the meeting, Putin prioritized energy, fertiliser, nuclear energy, and high technology sectors in bilateral cooperation with India. Modi and Putin are expected to meet at the SCO summit in Kyrgyzstan on August 31-September 1, and at the BRICS summit in New Delhi on September 12-13.

Bilateral trade between India and Russia reached a record high of US$ 68.7 billion in FY 2024-25 and US$ 59.863 billion in FY 2025-26. The Inter-Governmental Commission discussed various issues, including energy, fertiliser supplies, nuclear energy, high-technology cooperation, and other areas. Jaishankar conveyed Modi's wishes to Putin and expressed his hope to see Modi soon at SCO and BRICS summits.
