Dualog replaces Slack and Teams with Workspace, the platform it built for shipping

Maritime software company Dualog has migrated its internal communication from popular platforms Slack and Teams to its own Workspace platform, built specifically for shipping companies. Over the past three months, every Dualog office and department has operated on the platform, testing its features firsthand. The company employs a unique dogfooding approach, mirroring its offices as ships to test the platform's capabilities.

Workspace automatically groups users by ship, rank, and rotation, integrating with crew management systems to grant and revoke access as necessary. This addresses key issues in the maritime industry: slow onboarding and lost handovers. In its first month, users sent nearly 30,000 messages, 7,000 in channels, and shared over 600 files.

Since June, Dualog has rolled out more than 200 upgrades, including reliability improvements for poor connections, a native mobile experience, and an admin analytics dashboard. Dualog positions the use of Workspace as a major advantage over generic chat tools used at sea, as each user works under a single secure identity. Product Manager Mikael Johannessen emphasized that testing new features across actual crews and shore teams allows the company to learn from real use before rolling out updates.

Chief Commercial Officer Silje Moan highlighted the value for shipowners, stating that communication that follows the vessel, rank, and rotation reduces friction within fleets. Chat, the first service in Workspace, will soon be available for early access, with plans to introduce file sharing, maritime email, and a native AI assistant.
